The Future Mr & Mrs McCullagh
In a digital age where swiping right can lead to happily ever after, nearly six years on from meeting and Megan and John are newly engaged, and starting to plan their wedding.
Their engagement unfolded against the breathtaking backdrop of the Isle of Skye. The couple had planned to go a few years before, however Covid had other plans.
“John had booked this fancy hotel for us and we drove up to Skye.” Megan said, “He had spoken to my parents about it, as they had got us a gift certificate for a Michelin Star Restaurant”.
While Megan suspected a proposal was on the horizon, as John has cracked a joke at Christmas about a proposal, and, with her parents gift for the restaurant in Skye, as Megan said she “could pretty much guess”.
“On the day he proposed we went for a walk in this really nice bit of Skye, we were on our own at the top, it was a lovely area surrounded by mountains”. However, Megan knew John was going to get down on one knee during their walk as “the ring box fell out of his suitcase before we went out,” Megan laughed. “So Yeah, I knew it was going to happen but, it didn’t change it for me. It was lovely that he put in so much thought and effort”.
Megan explained: “Wedding planning so far has been pretty minimal, however, this weekend we are going to view six venues across Glasgow and Ayrshire”.
The pair did think about a wedding abroad but though having it in Scotland would allow all of their closest friends and family to attend. As Megan has always dreamed her big day would be “a really fun, wholesome celebration”.
“I imagine our wedding to be very bright and floral, hopefully in the summer time”. Megan has been drawing inspiration from social media, and she is considering unique touches like mismatched bridesmaids dresses in complementary pastel colours, reflecting their love for all things bright and colourful.
Megan offers down-to-earth advice for brides to be. “Genuinely just do what you want to do and not what other people want you to do. Be realistic with your budget and keep a track of everything”. Megan recommends an app called Mural to keep track of plans and add your wedding inspo.
